Fine Art Photography

Fine Art Photography is created primarily as an expression of the artist’s vision in accordance with the creative expression of the photographer as artist. Fine Art Photography has also been important in advancing certain causes (for example, the work of Ansel Adams in Yosemite raised public awareness of the beauty of the Sierra Nevada and helped to build political support for its protection), has been important in enhancing photojournalism (for example, Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs 1913–2008 was a major exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to bring together the magazine's historic archive of rare vintage prints with its contemporary photographs, exploring the ways in which photography and celebrity have interacted and changed through the years), and can be considered important across all venues of photo expression.

Fine Art Photography is also created to enhance the print media, its covers and editorials. Going beyond the typical photojournalism approach to capture the moment or express the news, Fine Art Photography is being used to express, artistically, in a manner less commercial and more inviting to the viewer. The photography has even become the primary interest of the reader over reading the editorial copy. National Geographic magazine has lead the way in showcasing beautiful fine art photography as the primary purpose for purchasing and viewing its magazine. As printing technologies have improved, photography art prints reproduced in a finely-printed limited-edition work have now become an area of strong interest to collectors and museums. The publishing of a photographic image can make the photo even more valuable as a fine art print.

Michael Higgins creates from these expressions of Fine Art Photography. Much of his work can be found in private collections and art galleries. His fine art photography has been used in such national magazines as National Geographic, Flying Adventures and Food & Wine. His work is made available for collectors using the very latest digital technologies to produce the finest reproduction. Each one is individually produced and inspected, assembled using museum quality materials, and designed to provide a most elegant presentation.
